The Week Ahead

Our format for The Week Ahead is evolving. Hopefully the changes will mean it is more useful for you. If you have comments about the changes we make, let us know!

Last week we blogged about the still-looming federal sequestration cuts. Policy highlights for the week of February 11th through February 15th include:

  • House Transportation and the Environment Subcommittee discusses the Maryland Port Administration, the Motor Vehicle Administration, and the State Lottery and Gaming Control Agency Monday at 3pm in room 120 of the House Office Building (HOB).
  • Senate Health and Human Services Subcommittee discusses the Developmental Disabilities Administration Monday at 1pm in room Amoss of the SOB.
  • Senate Public Safety, Transportation, and Environment Subcommittee discusses the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS), the Office of the State Prosecutor, and the Office of Administrative Hearings Monday at 1pm in room Schweinhaut, SOB.
  • Senate Budget and Taxation Committee discuss the Public Debt, the State Reserve Fund, and the Department of Budget and Management Tuesday at 1pm in room 3 West, SOB.
  • Senate Capital Budget Subcommittee discusses the Department of Information Technology and the Department of the Environment Tuesday at 4pm in room 3 West, SOB. The House Capital Budget Subcommittee discusses holds their own hearing Wednesday at 4pm in room 120, HOB.
  • House Education and Economic Development Subcommittee discusses Morgan State University, Frostburg State University, and Bowie State University Wednesday at 1pm in room 145, HOB.
  • Health and Human Resources Subcommittee discusses the Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, the Department of Disabilities, and the MD Institute Emergency Medical Services Systems Wednesday at 1pm in room 150, HOB.

  • House Judiciary Committee hears testimony on HB 192 (fiscal note), establishing the Rental Allowance Program Fund using increased sheriff fees for serving process, Wednesday at 1pm.

  • Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System Work Group is briefed on the  Maryland Emergency Medical System Operations Fund Tuesday at 4pm in room 145, HOB.
  • Advisory Council for Alternative Response meets Tuesday at 1pm in room 1044, Department of Human Resources, 311 West Saratoga Street, Baltimore. 
  • Workgroup to Review the Disclosure Requirements of the Maryland Public Ethics Law meets Thursday at 8:45am in room 250, HOB.
  • Video Lottery Facility Location Commission receives an update from the Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, considers the request for proposals for a Prince George's facility, and considers the request for additional video lottery terminals in Allegany County Thursday at 3pm in the Joint Hearing Room.
