Unemployment in Maryland declined in 2011 for the first time
in three years, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report released today.

The number of unemployed Marylanders also fell last
year. From a peak of 239,441 in 2010 the
number of unemployed Marylanders fell by 22,930, or 9.6 percent. Yet there are still more than twice as many
unemployed residents as there were in 2007, before the Great Recession.

State employment figures for January 2012 will be released
